Fifth grade teachers have challenged their students to read 40 books this year! Last year ten students actually reached the goal! We are hoping to have even more students complete the challenge this year! Students who are successful will be recognized at the 5th grade award ceremony with a special trophy! There will also be a party to celebrate their achievement! Start reading now!

Do you have LEGOS?

We are collecting items to use in a section of the library called MakerSpace. We are in need of Legos or any other building materials such as K-nex, lincoln logs, or tinker toys to use. We would greatly appreciate you thinking about us when you are ready to clean out your child's room! Thanks in advance for helping with our MakerSpace! If you want to learn more about MakerSpaces, read this article!

Battle of the Books

We have selected our three teams to participate in the county-wide reading competition, Battle of the Books! The battle is based on the 15 Florida Sunshine State Young Reader Award Books (SSYRA). Good luck to our teams as they prepare for the battle in May!

Sunshine State Books

This year's Sunshine State Young Reader Award (SSYRA) books are waiting to be checked out! This program is designed for 3rd-5th grade students. Students who read one book and pass the test with a 70% or higher will receive a charm for that book. To participate in the Supervisor of Elections Voting Day on April 6th, 3rd graders need to read three SSYRA books, 4th graders need to read four SSYRA books, and 5th graders need to read five SSYRA books. The deadline to take tests to count toward your voting card is April 2nd. Start reading now! Some resources are below. SSYRA 2017-2018

Read the Rainbow

Our fiction section has been genrefied! Each category is a different color. To encourage students to read books out of their comfort zone we have created Read the Rainbow. Students who read one book from each section and take and pass the AR test will receive a rainbow treat (a bag of Skittles)! They will also be entered into a drawing for a $25 Barnes & Noble gift card and other rainbow prizes!

Facebook Live Author Events!

Florida SSYRA has offered a great FREE resource this year, Facebook Live events with authors on the SSYRA and SSYRA JR lists! We have had sevral so far this year! If your child did not get attend one of these events, (or did and wants to watch his/her question being asked and answered again) they are all posted on the Florida SSYRA Facebook page!
